I just took this survey and I would like to encourage as many people as possible to do the same. It only took me about 4-5 minutes. If our voices can be heard, and enough people put in their two cents, maybe, just maybe, our sweet county will grow properly. Seems to me it can’t hurt.

PITTSBORO - Chatham County has produced a survey to give residents a chance to speak out on important current issues, their priorities for the future, and customer service experiences.

The results of the survey will be shared with the Board of Commissioners and county management to identify needed improvements and to plan for the future. We make them available to the public as well by publishing the results on the county website (www.chathamnc.org) before January 16,? said County Manager Charlie Horne.

It?s the first time that Chatham County has done a public survey that focuses on broad issues and challenges as well as customer service experiences,? he added. ?The Board of County Commissioners is eager to hear from residents all across the county,? said George Lucier.

We know that each resident has a valuable perspective and we look forward to seeing the final results. We will take the findings into consideration as we develop plans for the future.?Given the tight budget constraints, the county opted to use its own in-house survey abilities. ?We recognize that we will have to work harder to get input from a diverse group of residents, but we have several strategies in place to reach people who may not have internet access or who often don?t have a chance to provide input,? Horne said.Henzey said that survey responses, including printed copies and website responses, are completely anonymous. Residents have until Monday,Dec. 15, 2008, to submit their survey.

There are several ways to access the survey: ONLINE: The survey can be completed and submitted online at: www.chathamnc.org. Look for the ?Quick Links? box in the upper right of the homepage. The first choice in the drop-down menu is the 2008 Community Survey. Or you can go directly to it with this link:

http://www.chathamnc.org/index.aspx?recordid=47&page=50

?This is the fastest and easiest option for residents. The results are automatically compiled and are not subject to the potential human error that can happen when keying in answers from hand-written surveys,? said Debra Henzey, director of Community Relations.
EMAIL OR MAIL COPY: Those who don?t have access to or prefer not to use the online survey can contact Liz Marcum or Debra Henzey in the CountyManager?s Office to request a copy by email or postal service. Call 542-8200 or email: liz.marcum@chathamnc.org or debra.henzey@chathamnc.org.

COUNTYOFFICES: Copies of the survey and boxes to collect completed surveys will be available by Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the following county offices:
??County libraries in Pittsboro, SilerCity (Wrenn Library), and Goldston;
??Health Department Clinics lobby areas in Pittsboro (DunlapBuilding on East Street behind Hardees) and SilerCity (1000 South Tenth Avenue);
??County Tax Office in the first floor of the Courthouse Annex in Pittsboro, which is the two-story brick building that faces the traffic circle from the south.
??SocialServicesBuilding located on Camp Drive just off of NC Hwy. 87 in Pittsboro.

RETURNING SURVEYS: Printed copies of the survey can be dropped off at the locations listed above as well as the CountyManager?s Office on the second floor of the Courthouse Annex. A return mailing address and fax number are both provided on all printed copies.

SPANISH VERSION: By Nov. 21, Spanish-language surveys will be available at the Health Clinics in SilerCity and Pittsboro and at Chatham County Social Services in Pittsboro. Residents also can request a copy from Debra Henzey at debra.henzey@chathamnc.org or call 542-8258.

There will be a collection day for unused/unwanted pesticides held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Southern States - Siler City Service from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

This is a free service provided by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in cooperation with North Carolina Cooperative Extension. This program will allow you to properly dispose of any unwanted pesticides. Unused and unwanted pesticides can present a potential contamination problem around the home or farm. There are many such products still stored in storage buildings or garages because the people don’t know how to properly and legally dispose of them.

This program is designed to do just that. Take some time and do a little housecleaning to get ready for the holidays and bring those old pesticides by Southern States in Siler City on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to get them out of your way.

Subject: Casino Night follow up

After taking a couple of weeks to rest, recuperate and reflect, Bynum Front Porch would like to thank everybody who helped make Casino Night such a success. We couldn’t have pulled it off without our sponsors, volunteers, and more importantly, the good people who attended. We would like to sincerely thank everybody who was involved. We wish we could name them all but there are just too many!

We have already started thinking about next year’s event and would really appreciate any and all feedback. So whether you were a volunteer, sponsor, or attendee, please let us know how we can make this event bigger and better next year. Please send all comments, good, bad, or indifferent, to jwinecker@embarqmail.com*.

Again, a big thank you to all those who made Casino Night a success and we hope to see you next year!
