Pittsboro, NC – The General Store Café will be re-opening in August if one chef and business owner has his way.

The Pittsboro-based business has been sold to Greg Lewis, the general manager and owner of the Cary-based company Catering by Design.

Lewis plans to renovate the interior of the café, and to revamp the menu. He said quite a bit of the furniture has been sold, and he’s replacing most of the tables and chairs.

Lewis, who lives in Pittsboro with his wife and three daughters, is a former patron of the café. He said he plans to continue with the same basic business café concept: live music and good food.

Lewis said he bought the business out of bankruptcy for $10,000, and settled leases on some of the kitchen, music and computer equipment.

There was a post 9 on Wed. Feb. 22 Chatham matters saying: “You neglect to point out that the Clinton administration radically changed regulations for the CRA, for HUD, FHA and for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac….”

And I sent a post with info from a New York Times op ed:“As the country’s greatest modern champion of deregulation, perhaps Ronald Reagan contributed more to today’s unstable business climate than any other American…” which did not get in the chatlist.

In all fairness , Gene, you jumped on my recent post and put that out in public, and I think my info here should be posted on chatlist rather than leave me looking like a false fact- putter.

***********************************************
No offense taken, Joy.

BTW, it was probably just an oversight, but you did fail to mention the fact that I had added the following note to that particular post.

—————-
OK folks -

We have now moved beyond Chatham County about government economic policies.

There are PLENTY of other forums available to discuss non-Chathamcentric political issues.

One more day to wrap this up. Then direct your posts to the “This, That and Everything else section” on the Chatham BBS at http://chatham-county-nc.com/bulletinboard/index.php/board,5.0.html

CALL TO ARTISTS

Galloway Ridge at Fearrington, a senior retirement community, is looking for art created by Chatham County artists to display in our distinguished and Weathersfield Cafe for our Galloway Ridge-Chatham Artist Collaboration.

Galloway Ridge is located near Fearrington Village on 15-501 between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro. Many of our residents and visitors are collectors and would welcome high quality original art both at Galloway Ridge and their private homes.

The art should be original 2-D paintings or photographs. The following themes are preferred – landscapes and seascapes; scenes from cities and towns emphasizing architectural elements; nature featuring flowers and animals. We’d favor art rendered in realistic or impressionistic styles, but tasteful abstracts will certainly be considered.

Each artist can submit a maximum of four pieces as Jpeg files with each having a resolution of between 100 and 200 pixels/inch and a maximum dimension of 1400 pixels. Each file should include:

Contact information needed: Name, phone number, e-mail address, mailing address and a list of the art submitted with name (e.g. Sue Martin_#1 Wings on a Cloud, Oil painting, 16×20), title, medium and size. This can be done as an e-mail to prichardson@gallowayridge.com or on a CD mailed to Pat Richardson at Galloway Ridge at Fearrington, 3000 Galloway Ridge, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

Deadline for submission is Monday, June 11th at 5pm. The selected artwork will be on display at Galloway Ridge for 12 weeks starting June 22 – September 21, 2012. Selected art work will need to be dropped off on Friday, June 22nd from 10am-3pm or Saturday, June 23rd from 10an-12noon.

All artwork will need to be onsite at Galloway Ridge for the entire duration of the rotation. No substitutions or removal of selected pieces once displayed.

All art should be ready to hang, with wire hangers. Art on paper (photographs, watercolors etc.) should be matted and framed with glass. Oils and acrylics on canvas can be framed or presented as gallery wrap. We’d prefer 11×14 to 20×26. Larger paintings such as 20×26 and above are needed also. Contact information should be attached to the back of each piece.

We are not able to advertise prices, but will make contact information available to anyone interested in purchasing a piece of art or seeing more of the artist’s work. There are no fees for submitting work and any sales resulting from the show are 100% the artist’s. Thus far we have sold 3 pieces from the second rotation and 8 pieces sold from the first rotation.

For more information please contact Pat Richardson at 919-642-6893.

Hi,

I lived in Siler City for quite some time, my younger girls finished middle school and high school in Siler City. I went through a divorce and moved the the western part of the state. I came across the list somehow online and subscribed. Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading most of the posts, I agree about the politics, there are enough of that in the media.

But Siler City did not have a Farmer’s Market when I lived there, Pittsboro was just starting to come back from a lil sleepy town. We come that way once or twice a year, I still have family in Siler City and friends as well. Thank you for opening this us to everyone, even former folks from Chatham. It’s nice to read things about home.

Have a wonderful day,

I have been out of town for over a month now – I came back last night and was horrified when I saw all the trees on main street had been scalped. How could anyone justify doing such a horrible thing? It looks awful and it makes the main street look shabby. I thought that sort of thing was supposed to be done before spring growth.

Shame-shame-shame on who made that decision – Kick them out of position- Or was it unanimous with all town board members.?

Town board members- take a good look at how sad your main street looks! You might be just as sad next election day!!!!!!!!!!

Subject: Brutal cutting of Pittsboro’s Hillsboro Street Holly Trees

It was only a week or so ago, I noticed the holly trees along Pittsboro’s main street were so beautiful- very green and full of foliage. Yesterday morning I arrived there early and my eyes were assaulted with a horrible scene. All but a couple of the holly trees had been hacked to the quick – squared off leaving multitudes of bare branches – many have no leaves at all.

The over-all effect of the scene is large pcs of drift wood carefully placed about. Most of the cuts are rough, flat with splinters and irregular edges. Only a few branches are cut on an angle. Some of the center trunks (main body of tree) are cut flat horizontally at the very top- a perfect place for germs, vermin, mold, etc. to grow. As an added insult, someone, in order to show where the limbs were to be cut back- SPRAY PAINTED ON THE GROUND AND CONCRETE- IN FLUORESCENT ORANGE PAINT!- Dozens of lines about five inches wide and over a yard long. ( each tree has at least four of these at the base) At the bottom of each and every tree- That paint does not go away- it will be visible for a long time;.

I just can’t see how anyone would think this is the right time of year to do such a trim- I may be dead wrong, but I feel that those trees are going to have a very difficult time leafing out and surviving the hot weather.

Speaking of spray painting lines in Pittsboro- it has become a craze-apparently- White lines here, orange lines there, then there are the bright blue lines- and yes the ever popular highway yellow lines- Black lines, red lines, green lines- There have got to be pink spray lines there somewhere- I just haven’t seen them.

Please take a look at these trees yourself and make your opinion known .
.. . Silence is not golden . . .
