Young adults in their 20s or 30s are meeting in a casual setting twice a
month to talk about what matters. Theology on Tap, offered by Chapel in the
Pines Presbyterian Church, meets the first and third Thursdays of every
month at 5:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Grill in Southern Village.

Led by Scott Adams, the group meets twice a month to discuss current events
and theological questions of relevance to post-undergraduates seeking
answers as they navigate many life changes that occur after college. Adams,
known to many in the area as an ultramarathoner who ran across North
Carolina in the summer of 2008 to increase support and awareness of cancer,
holds a Masters in Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA,
and also earned his Masters in Library Science from UNC where he now works.

The group tries to dig deep and be honest about a variety of faith-related
questions and discussion topics. Young adults of various perspectives,
backgrounds, denominations and faiths attend and encouraged to offer their
unique perspectives.

“It’s really laid back,” said Emily Davis, group coordinator. “Bring what
you will to the discussion.” Recent topics include being a missionary in war
ridden countries, politics and most recently the relationship between
Christianity and other faiths. Suggestions for future topics are welcome.

Interested? Our next gathering is scheduled for March 18. For more
information, contact Emily Davis at emilyrosedavis@gmail.com.

Subject: Survey of Chatham Taxpayers

While I applaud anyone who asks for accountability in government, I have to comment on Tom Glendinning’s survey. I took the survey, and found it to be very one sided, especially the last question. An unbiased survey would have included more boxes for “need more information”.

I am hard pressed to rate all the services listed, though I recognize that they all are important. I feel well qualified to comment on health and human services. They are are excellent given how little funding they really get and how understaffed they are. Do most people know that the health department is responsible for restaurant inspections, water
quality, well and septic inspection, community and school health and many other programs that happen outside of the “clinic”. There is plenty of research to show that most people have no clue as to all the services provided by the health department. The fact that health and social services were lumped together in your survey proves that and even
reinforces that the health department is a social service. It is not.

In a recent national project to determine county health status by state, Chatham Co ranked number 4 out of the 100 NC counties. This was not due to the availability of primary care providers. There we ranked 49 out 100. The ranking was due to community health initiatives.

Nobody likes paying taxes, but it is a fact of life if we want to have a livable infrastructure. Yes, we always need to make sure that our taxes are being used appropriately, but public opinion should not be based on an unscientific survey.

Hi Ms. Shook,

I see those dogs every day going to work. It drives me crazy to see the same dogs running loose everyday. I am not sure what is ironic about the “Volunteer Coordinator part though?” Could you elaborate? The title was given to me to help collect volunteers for the group. Do you know what the Coalition to Unchain Dogs is about? Have you gone to the website www.unchaindogs.org to check it out? Do you know we build fences for dogs? These fences are built by volunteers who take time out of thier schedules to help a dog in need. Some folk volunteer materials and other things such as dog houses, collars and toys. I understand not everyone will agree with the group and we all have our own opinions on it. But for me I would like to understand the other opinions. So please let me know.

Thanks, Robin

Considering the absolutely *preposterous* amount of Chatham folks who lose track of their dearly beloved dogs on what seems to be a weekly basis, I find it incredibly ironic that we now have a “Volunteer Cordinator” for the Chatham Chapter of Coalition to Unchain Dogs.

We’ve had AT&T /BellSouth at our home since we moved here in August. While the first 2 bills were understandably wacky because of new installation, prorated charges, etc, they have been wrong since October. I pay for unlimited long distance, yet every month, I get charged for long distance calls. So, I spend 30 minutes on the phone with them to correct the problem. They always credit the account, but have not done anything more, saying only that it’s a “known issue” and they’re working on it. It takes them 4 months to fix this??? Not to mention that it’s not like they are calling me to notify me that they’re overcharging me….
So, is anyone else having this problem with AT&T/BellSouth? Check your bills if you’re not sure.

More importantly, what other landline options are there? We’re out off of Jones Ferry Rd., between Lamont Norwood & River Rd.

Thanks, Sarah

Every insurance even Medicare covers Chiropractic to some degree if they participate with the company. Dr Hecht and Dr. Taylor in Chapel Hill take BCBS/State. They are in Timberlyne Place.

A driver who needs to turn left, has to drive in the left lane in order to do so. And yes, that driver has to slow down before making the turn. One of the things I really like about Chatham County is that most folks are very aware of this, and are kind and make the necessary lane adjustments.

Not only do they think the speed limit is suppose to be the minimum speed, they tail gate cars going 60 mph and over in the left lane. All kinds including woman with children in the cars, speeding and tailgating at high speeds while talking on the phone as well as texting.

You should see them, where it says reduced speed at Cole Park Plaza intersection. (45mph) They can not seem to compute it in their little brains. Now, can you all imagine these same drivers with one or more drinks in them.

The shame of it is, when you go the speed limit AND stay in the right lane, you risk these morons rear ending you because they are not paying attention to what they are doing.

You have to ask yourself why they are doing it. Not because they get were ever they are going faster as with each light, there they are. Its because there are no consequences and they have a total disregard for others on the road. There is a large dump truck that constantly runs the red stop light turning north onto 15-501 at the corner of the Harris-Teeter shopping center in the am. One of these days, he is going to do it to someone who is texting and doing 70mph. Have seen cars swing around him making the cars in the left lane have to brake. This is the norm. Sad isn’t it, when we have an oil problem and oil men who love to take advantage of people wasting this counties resources to up the price of gasoline. Why not make a profit off stupidity.
