Found this item on the Chatham Schools web site. It appears that our new superintendent of schools has set a stake in the ground. I like a lot of what I see. Professional & Personal Beliefs of Robert L. Logan I believe given adequate time and appropriate instruction, all children can learn. I do not believe nature is more

Moonlight Canoe Ride on the Haw River

With a guide and boats from the Haw River Canoe and Kayak Co., my boys, wife and I took a moonlight canoe ride on the Haw River, putting in at Saxapahaw in Alamance County, NC. It was a delightful evening. We also enjoyed a too brief visit to the town of Saxapahaw, which seems to doing a great job of transforming itself from a former mill village into a tourist attraction and model of environmentally-conscious living. See Sustainable Saxapahaw: Community-wide Conservation and Smalltown Living, in Fifteen501 magazine.

On Living in Chatham County, NC: What’s Its Future? Pros and Cons of Population Growth and Development

June 6, 2008
By

North Carolina's population is projected to double by 2035, moving from the 11th largest state to the sixth or seventh largest state. Chatham County, where I live, is expected to leap from 60,000 in 2008 to at least 120,000 by or before 2035. Perhaps there will be much faster growth, depending on economic conditions and the response of local government. When I arrived here in late 2006, there was talk that Chatham could become "the new Cary-Apex," which grew from a few thousand people in 1968 to more than 120,000 in 2008. The notion that the semi-rural character of...

LEED-Certified “Briar Club” Completed

Briar Chapel's clubhouse, the Briar Club, was recently completed and looks incredible. This LEED-Certified facility includes a number of gathering rooms (many with beautiful stone fireplaces), a state-of-the-art fitness facility, catering kitchen, classrooms, and offices for HOA staff. All of the artwork, furniture and decor was chosen with one thing in mind, nature. Outside, they're still working on the two pools, a diving well, water slide, splash pad, cabanas, barbecue areas, a children's playground, and picnic glade. I hope you enjoy the slideshow I've put together.
